About Jay Taylor
Jay Taylor is a lifelong West Virginian, conservative Republican, and State Senator representing the area he’s called home for most of his life. Raised in Grafton, Jay got involved in local politics early and has spent decades working to support conservative causes and candidates.
In the Senate, Jay brings a practical, common-sense approach to the job. He believes in being careful with taxpayer dollars, defending the right to self-defense, and standing up for the sanctity of life. Much of his work has focused on making sure rural communities like his aren’t overlooked.
Jay and his wife, Kristi, have been married for more than 17 years and are raising their two children, Reagan and Jack. Faith and family are central to their lives, and Jay is proud to serve West Virginia with those values in mind.

Jay Taylor's Priorities
Faith & Conservative Values
After coming to know Jesus as a young adult, Jay’s made his faith central to how he approaches family, service, and leadership. He is a member of the Senate Prayer Caucus and supported the “In God We Trust” law because he believes faith and values still belong in public life.
Second Amendment & Public Safety
Jay is a staunch defender of the Second Amendment. In rural areas especially, he sees self-defense as a practical issue, not a talking point. He believes “gun-free zones” don’t stop bad actors, and that law-abiding citizens shouldn’t be the ones left vulnerable. Jay is also a proud supporter of law enforcement and first responders, and is supportive of states cooperating with federal immigration officials like ICE.
Fiscal Responsibility & Low Taxes
As a fiscal conservative, Jay believes the government should live within its means. He supports keeping taxes lower and simpler, and cutting wasteful spending. His view is straightforward: families have to budget, and the government should too.
Education & Parental Rights
Jay believes parents should have the final say when it comes to their kids. He supports school choice and is critical of unnecessary red tape that gets in the way of good teachers and families.
Building Community Partnerships
Carl Pieczonka believes in strong relationships between law enforcement and the community through school outreach, public engagement, and open communication.
Promoting the Sanctity of Life
Jay believes every life has value and that protecting the unborn is a responsibility. For Jay, being pro-life means supporting families and making sure all children are given every chance to grow and thrive.
Rural Healthcare
Much of Jay’s work in the legislature has been focused on improving access to healthcare in rural communities. He’s helped pass reforms that allow trained optometrists and nurse anesthetists to provide care locally, cutting down on long drives and waits for families who already have limited options.
Protecting Our Kids & Girls’ Sports
As a father, Jay sees firsthand what families are dealing with in schools today. No child should feel uncomfortable at school, and that belief has shaped his work in the legislature. Jay has focused on school safety, privacy, and common sense boundaries so kids can focus on learning. He supports keeping men out of girls’ sports and private spaces and believes fairness and biology are critical, especially when it comes to protecting young girls.
Workforce Development & Opportunity
Jay believes that hard work should be encouraged and rewarded. He’s focused on policies that connect people to jobs and make sure assistance programs are fair, responsible, and aimed at helping people get back on their feet.
Agriculture & Property Rights
Jay understands how important farming and land ownership are to rural West Virginia. He supports private property rights and believes decisions about land use should be handled carefully, with common sense, and respect for the folks who own and work the land.
